Ft. Collins Symphony Saves "Best for Last" in Two-Evening Performance

Sonny Lubick Steakhouse to Donate a Percentage of Proceeds to the Symphony

FORT COLLINS, Colo., April 30, 2009 - To conclude its 59th season, the Fort Collins Symphony, Wes Kenney Music Director, announces its May 8 and May 9 concerts, appropriately titled Best for Last. An abbreviated, hour-long Friday Nite Lite concert will begin at 7 p.m., May 8 at University Center of the Arts Griffin Hall. Saturday night’s concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., May 9 at Lincoln Center and will include an intermission. Best for Last is sponsored by the City of Fort Collins Fort Fund, Griffin Foundation and The Coloradoan.

Patrons wishing to dine out are encouraged to visit Sonny Lubick Steakhouse for a Meet and Greet session with guest artist, Tami Petty. The restaurant has agreed to donate a percentage of proceeds to the Fort Collins Symphony towards achieving its fundraising goal of $40,000 by June 1, 2009. Patrons must show their concert tickets at the door before or after each concert for the donation to be valid.

The Best for Last programs will include Smetana’s Die Moldau, Strauss’ Four Last Songs, featuring critically-acclaimed soprano, Tami Petty; and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra. Wes Kenney, Fort Collins Symphony Music Director has without a doubt saved the “Best for Last” for the Symphony’s closing concerts of the season. He explains, “The Strauss Four Last Songs and the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra are the last pieces that the composers wrote. In the case of the Strauss, many believe this is the finest piece of writing he did in terms of orchestra color.”

Tickets to the May 8 Best for Last cost $25 for general admission and $8 for students. Tickets to the May 9 Best for Last cost $27, $32 or $37 for general admission and $11 for students. To purchase tickets for either concert, call (970) 221-6730 or visit www.lctix.com.

Immediately following the May 9 Best for Last, join the Fort Collins Symphony for its BMW 2-Year Lease Raffle drawing in the Lincoln Center lobby. Raffle tickets, which are still available, cost $25 each or five for $100.
